XMP Metadata Editor
Credit and context travel with your images when they are written into the file itself. The XMP Metadata Editor lets photographers add a Creator, Title, and Description to a JPG, TIFF, or PNG as an XMP metadata packet, then download a tagged copy without re-encoding the image or touching a single pixel.

Frequently asked questions
What does the XMP Metadata Editor do?
It adds descriptive XMP metadata to a copy of your image. You fill in Creator, Title, and Description, and the tool writes them as a standard Dublin Core XMP packet, the same metadata vocabulary used across photo software, and attaches it to the file. The image data itself is copied exactly, so there is no re-compression and no change in quality.
How do I add XMP metadata to a photo?
Click or Drag and Drop Image and choose one file. The Metadata Fields section appears with three boxes: Creator, for your name or studio; Title, for the image title; and Description, for a caption. Fill in the fields you want, then click Apply & Download. The tagged copy saves with edited_ added to the front of the original file name.
Which file formats can I tag?
The tool is designed for JPG, TIF, and PNG files, the formats that most commonly carry XMP metadata. One image is handled at a time. The downloaded copy is the same format as the original, with the same pixels, and your original file on disk is left exactly as it was.
Will my editing software see the new metadata?
The packet is added to the end of the file rather than inserted into the format's dedicated metadata block, and some applications read XMP only from that block. Before tagging a whole set, check one edited copy in the programs your clients and agencies use. Fields left empty are written as blank values, so fill in every field you want to keep.
Why should photographers add creator and caption metadata?
Metadata embedded in the file stays with an image when it is downloaded, shared, or sent to a publication, helping editors credit you correctly and find images by title or caption. A Creator field supports your ownership claim if images are used without permission, and descriptions make large archives searchable. Add metadata before delivery so every exported file carries it.
Is the XMP Metadata Editor free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark, and runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded to a server and nothing needs to be installed. To use it, you answer once that you are a photographer and sign in to or create a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool on the site.
