IPTC Metadata Editor
Photographers use the IPTC Metadata Editor to add or correct the title, caption and creator name in JPEG images, so credit and context travel with the file. Choose a JPEG, check the values it already holds, edit the three fields and download the updated image. The picture itself is not recompressed, and everything runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
What is IPTC metadata?
IPTC metadata is a standard set of descriptive fields stored inside image files, developed by the International Press Telecommunications Council. It holds information such as the title, caption, creator and copyright, and is read by photo agencies, newsrooms, digital asset managers and many websites. Filling it in keeps your name and context attached to the picture wherever it goes.
How do I edit IPTC fields with this tool?
Click the area at the top and choose a JPEG from your device. Three fields appear: Title, Caption/Description and Creator/Author, already filled with any values the file holds. Type or correct the information, then click Apply & Download. The edited copy saves with -iptc added to its name, so your original stays as it was. Clearing a field removes that value from the copy.
Which IPTC fields can I edit?
The editor covers three widely used basic fields: Title, a short name for the image; Caption/Description, the sentence or paragraph that explains what is happening; and Creator/Author, the photographer's name. These are the fields agencies, editors and asset managers look for first. Other IPTC details already in the file, such as keywords or a copyright notice, are kept exactly as they were, but this tool does not edit them.
Which file formats are supported?
The tool accepts JPEG images, the format in which IPTC data is most commonly delivered to clients, agencies and publications. For raw files, add metadata in your raw processor or catalog, where it can be written to sidecar files and carried through to every export. Then export your JPEGs with metadata included, and use this editor for quick corrections afterwards.
Does editing the metadata change my photo?
No. The tool rewrites only the block of the JPEG that stores IPTC data and copies the compressed image data across byte for byte, so there is no re-encoding and no loss of quality. EXIF details such as camera settings stay in place too. Text is saved as UTF-8, so accented letters and non-Latin names display correctly in software that reads IPTC.
Why should photographers fill in IPTC metadata?
Metadata is how your credit survives when an image is shared, downloaded or filed in a client's archive. Picture desks rely on captions and creator fields, and search engines and stock libraries can use descriptive text to index images. Adding it consistently before delivery saves clients time and reduces the risk of uncredited use of your work.
Is the IPTC Metadata Editor free and private?
Yes. It is free and needs no software. Your JPEG is read and rewritten in your browser on your own device and never leaves it. The first time you open a tool, you answer that you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account; that one step unlocks every tool on the site.
