What does the SVG to GIF Converter do?
It renders an SVG vector graphic as a GIF image. The graphic is drawn at the size set in the SVG file on top of a solid background color you choose, then reduced to a 256-color palette, the limit of the GIF format, and saved with the same name as the original. It converts one file at a time.
How do I convert an SVG to a GIF?
Click to upload SVG and choose your file. Its name appears and the settings open. Use the Background Color swatch to pick the color behind your graphic; it starts as white. Click Convert to GIF and the GIF downloads straight away. To convert another graphic, upload the next file and repeat.
Can the GIF have a transparent background?
No. The converter always fills the background with the color you select before drawing the SVG, so the GIF has a solid background. Match the background color to the page or email where the GIF will appear so the edges blend in. If you need true transparency, PNG is a better choice than GIF for a logo.
Will an animated SVG become an animated GIF?
No. The converter captures a single still frame of the SVG, so the result is a static GIF. Colors are reduced to a 256-color palette, which suits logos, icons, and flat graphics well. Graphics with smooth gradients or photographic detail may show some banding, in which case PNG or JPG will look better.
Where are GIF logos still useful for photographers?
GIF is universally supported by email clients, so it works well for a studio logo in an email signature or newsletter, and some older website builders and forums accept GIF where they reject SVG. Set the background color to match your email template, keep the SVG as your master file, and convert again whenever your branding changes.
