Frequently asked questions
What does the GIF to TIFF Converter do?
It reads a GIF in your browser and writes it as a TIFF, the format many print labs, publishers and archives prefer. The output is a baseline TIFF: uncompressed, stored in one strip, in RGB, or in RGBA with an alpha channel when the GIF has transparent areas. That simple structure opens in virtually every image editor and layout program.
How do I convert a GIF to TIFF?
Click the upload area or drag and drop a GIF onto it. The file name appears marked Ready and the Convert to TIFF button turns on. Click it, and your browser downloads a .tiff file with the same name as your GIF. To convert another file, select a new GIF and click the button again.
What happens with animated GIFs?
A TIFF from this tool holds one image, so animated GIFs are converted using their first frame. If you need a specific frame, export it as a separate GIF in your editor first, then convert that file. The frame keeps its exact pixel dimensions, and every pixel is copied across without any loss.
Will converting to TIFF improve image quality?
TIFF preserves exactly what the GIF contains, without adding compression artifacts, but it cannot restore detail or color that the GIF discarded. GIFs hold at most 256 colors, so smooth gradients may still show banding. Use this conversion when software or a print workflow requires TIFF, and go back to your original files when you need full tonal range.
Why are TIFF files so much bigger than GIFs?
GIF compresses a limited color palette, while this tool writes uncompressed TIFF with a full 8-bit value for every channel of every pixel. A small GIF can grow to many times its size. That trade-off buys compatibility: uncompressed baseline TIFFs open reliably in older software, RIP systems and archive tools that may struggle with compressed variants.
Is the GIF to TIFF converter free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. The GIF is processed in your browser, on your own device, and never uploaded. Before first use you answer that you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account; that single step unlocks this and every other tool.
