Frequently asked questions
What does the 512x512 resizer produce?
It outputs an image measuring exactly 512 x 512 pixels, saved as a PNG named resized_512_ followed by your original file name. PNG is lossless, so the resize does not add compression artifacts, and transparent areas in the source are kept. The tool uses the browser's high-quality smoothing setting to keep edges clean when reducing larger images.
How do I resize an image to 512x512?
Click the area labeled Click or Drag to Upload Image and choose one image. Its name appears with a Ready status and the Resize and Download button becomes available. Press it, and the tool scales the image to 512 x 512 and downloads the PNG, then shows Done. Select another file to resize the next one.
Will a non-square photo be distorted?
Yes. The tool scales the whole image to exactly 512 x 512 without cropping, so a rectangular photo gets squeezed into the square. A 3:2 landscape would look horizontally compressed. To keep natural proportions, crop the photo to a square in your editor first, then resize it here for a clean, undistorted result.
Which image formats can I use?
Any image your browser can open works, including JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and, in most current browsers, AVIF. The output is always PNG. Because PNG files are lossless, a 512 x 512 photo can be larger in file size than a JPG of the same dimensions, though at this small size it usually remains light.
Where are 512x512 images used?
512 x 512 is a common size for profile pictures, app and web icons, favicons and logo uploads, plugin listings and marketplace thumbnails. Photographers often need it for a studio logo, a headshot avatar on booking or directory sites, or a square preview tile. Starting from a sharp, square crop gives the cleanest small image.
Is this resizer free, and is my image uploaded?
The tool is free, with no watermark and no installation. Your image is never uploaded: all resizing happens in your browser on your own device. The first time you visit, you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool in the collection.
