Resize for Instagram Reel
Turn any still photo into a full-screen vertical image for Instagram Reels and Stories. This free tool scales your picture to fill a 1080 x 1920 pixel, 9:16 frame, center-crops whatever extends past the edges and saves a high-quality JPG, so photographers can drop stills into vertical videos and posts without awkward borders.

Frequently asked questions
What does this Resize for Instagram Reel tool do?
It converts a still image into a vertical 1080 by 1920 pixel frame, the 9:16 shape used by Reels and Stories. The photo is scaled until it fills the whole frame, centered, and anything extending past the edges is trimmed. The result is saved as a JPG at 95 percent quality with Reel_ added to the start of the original file name, so it is easy to tell apart from your full-size export.
How do I resize a photo for an Instagram Reel?
Click the area labeled Click or Drag to Upload Image and choose a photo. It appears with a Ready status. Click Resize for Reel, and the vertical JPG downloads as soon as processing finishes. Use Clear to reset the tool and prepare another image for your next Reel. The tool handles one photo at a time, so repeat the steps for each frame in a sequence.
Can this tool resize video files?
No, this version works with still images only. It produces a JPG frame, which is ideal for adding photos to a Reel in your editing app or posting a vertical Story. If you choose a video file, the tool shows a link to the video Resize for Instagram Reel tool in this collection instead, which re-records the clip at 1080 by 1920 in your browser and keeps its sound.
Which part of a horizontal photo is kept?
The center. A horizontal photo is scaled up until its height fills 1920 pixels, so most of the left and right sides are cropped away and only the middle section remains. For group shots or wide scenes, crop to 9:16 in your editor first and position the frame yourself so no one important gets cut off. A vertical photo close to 9:16 loses very little.
How can photographers use still images in Reels?
Photo-based Reels are a popular way to share a session: a quick sequence of favorites, a before and after, or a teaser gallery for a wedding or portrait client. Preparing each still at exactly 1080 by 1920 means your editing app does not apply its own crop, so faces and details stay where you intended and every frame in the sequence lines up.
Is this Instagram Reel resizer free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. Your image is processed in your browser on your own device and never leaves it. To use the tool, you confirm once that you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool in the collection.
