Frequently asked questions
What does the 1080x1080 resizer do?
It takes one photo and produces a square image measuring exactly 1080 x 1080 pixels. The photo keeps its proportions and is scaled until it fills the whole square, then any extra width or height is trimmed equally from both sides. The result downloads as a JPG at 90 percent quality, named resized_ followed by your original file name.
How do I resize an image to 1080x1080?
Click the area labeled Click or Drag to Upload and choose a photo. It appears in the list with a Ready status. Press Resize to 1080x1080 and the tool crops and scales the image, downloads the square JPG and changes the status to Done. To resize another image, click the upload area again and select the next file.
Will my photo be stretched?
No. The tool never distorts proportions. It enlarges or reduces the photo just enough to cover the square, then crops the overflow from the center. A landscape photo loses some of its left and right sides, and a portrait loses some top and bottom. If the subject is off center, crop to a square in your editor first for precise framing.
Which file formats are supported?
You can use any image your browser can open, typically JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF, and AVIF in current browsers. Output is always JPG, which is accepted almost everywhere you might post a square image. Transparent areas in a PNG become white in the result, since JPG cannot store transparency.
Where do photographers use 1080x1080 images?
Square 1080 pixel images are a long-standing standard for Instagram feed posts and work well for Facebook, LinkedIn, online galleries, directory listings and email thumbnails. They are also handy for quick client previews, since they are large enough to look sharp on a phone yet small enough to send easily.
Is it free, and are my images private?
Yes. The resizer is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. The image is processed in your own browser and never leaves your device. On your first visit you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool. Imagen also builds AI editing software that learns your personal style.
