Resize for WhatsApp
Resize for WhatsApp prepares photos for two WhatsApp spots: a 1024x1024 profile picture and a 1080x1920 Status. Choose Fill to crop from the center or Fit to keep the whole photo with black padding, set the export quality, and resize a batch of JPG, PNG or WebP images into JPGs for sharing sneak peeks with clients.

Frequently asked questions
What is the ideal image size for sending photos on WhatsApp?
It depends on where the image goes. This tool makes the two shapes WhatsApp shows full frame: a 1:1 profile picture, saved at 1024 by 1024 pixels, and a 9:16 Status or Story image, saved at 1080 by 1920. Both are large enough to look sharp on a phone without being needlessly heavy. Ordinary photos in a chat can keep their own shape, and the app scales those itself when you send them.
How do I use the Resize for WhatsApp tool to prepare my client galleries?
Click the upload area or drag your JPG, PNG or WebP files onto it; you can add several. Under WhatsApp Target Format, pick Profile Picture (1:1) or Status / Story (9:16). Under Resize Method, choose Fill (Crop excess) or Fit (Add black padding), and set Export Quality, which starts at 85 percent. Click Resize Images, and each photo downloads as a JPG named with WA_, the format and your file name.
Why do my professional photos look blurry when sent directly through WhatsApp?
WhatsApp compresses images so they send quickly over all kinds of mobile connections. When you send a large file straight from your camera or editing software, the app reduces the pixel count and applies heavy compression, which can cost fine detail and add banding. Preparing images at a sensible size and quality first leaves the app less to change, so you keep more control over what your recipient sees.
When should a photographer choose to send images via WhatsApp instead of a gallery link?
WhatsApp suits immediate, informal communication, such as a few sneak peeks shortly after a shoot for clients eager to share, or quick feedback during editing. For final, high-resolution galleries, a dedicated client gallery is always the better choice. Treat WhatsApp as a channel for previews and engagement, and a Status image made with this tool is a simple way to tease a session to your contacts.
How does Resize for WhatsApp compare to exporting directly from Lightroom?
Exporting from desktop editing software means setting up a preset for each shape, with its own crop, dimensions and compression. This tool has the WhatsApp profile and Status sizes built in, along with a crop or pad choice, so you pick a format and download the results in a few clicks. Your editor remains the place for full galleries; this is for quickly adapting a few finished photos for your phone.
What should I do if my resized images are still losing quality upon sending?
Check your WhatsApp settings. The app has a media upload quality option in its storage and data settings, and recent versions also let you choose HD when sending a photo, so make sure you are not on a data-saving setting. If the image still looks rough, raise the Export Quality slider here and resize again. For full quality, send the file as a document instead of a photo, which WhatsApp does not compress.
Does resizing an image change its original aspect ratio?
Yes, the output always takes the shape of the format you pick: a 1:1 square for a profile picture or a 9:16 vertical frame for Status. Your photo is never stretched to get there. Fill (Crop excess) scales it to cover the frame and trims the edges evenly from the center. Fit (Add black padding) keeps the whole photo and fills the leftover space with black. Your original file is not changed.
Can I process multiple photos at once for a client sneak peek?
Yes. Select several images at once or drag a group onto the upload area, and they all join the list. Click Resize Images, and each one is processed with the same format, method and quality, then downloads as its own JPG rather than as a single archive. Photos already marked Done are skipped if you click again, so you can add more and resize only the new ones.
Why is the Resize for WhatsApp tool rejecting my image file format?
The tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP images. Camera RAW files such as CR2, NEF or ARW, and working files like PSD or TIFF, cannot be opened in a browser, so they are not accepted. Develop and export those files as JPG or PNG in your editing software first, then add the exported copies here. Whatever you put in, the tool saves a JPG.
Will the resizing process strip the metadata and copyright information from my photos?
Yes. The tool redraws your image in the browser and saves a new JPG from the pixels, so EXIF camera settings, location data, copyright fields and any embedded color profile are not carried over. Export in sRGB for predictable color. Messaging apps tend to strip metadata on their own as well, so if you want your work credited when it is shared, add a visible watermark or signature before resizing.
