Frequently asked questions
Which aspect ratios does the VSCO resizer support?
There are three options. Portrait (4:5) produces 1080 x 1350 pixels and is selected by default, Square (1:1) produces 1080 x 1080 pixels, and Landscape (3:2) produces 1080 x 720 pixels. Every output is 1080 pixels wide, and the chosen ratio is shown next to each file in the list so you can confirm it before resizing.
How do I resize photos for VSCO?
Click the area marked Click or Drag to Upload and select one or more photos. They appear in a list with their target ratio. Pick Portrait (4:5), Square (1:1) or Landscape (3:2), then press Resize & Download. Each image is cropped, resized and downloaded as a JPG named vsco_ plus the ratio and the original file name.
How does the tool crop my photo?
It scales the photo to cover the whole target frame while keeping its proportions, then trims the overflow evenly from both sides. A 3:2 camera original loses its left and right edges when cropped to 4:5, while a photo already in the chosen ratio is only resized. Nothing is stretched or padded, so check that the subject sits near the center first.
Which file types does it accept, and what quality is the output?
Any image your browser can open is accepted, such as JPG, PNG and WebP. Results are always saved as JPG at 95 percent quality, which preserves fine grain, film-style textures and smooth tonal transitions very well. Starting from a full-resolution export gives the cleanest result, because images narrower than the target are enlarged to 1080 pixels wide.
Which ratio should a photographer use on VSCO?
Portrait 4:5 fills the most screen space on a phone and suits people and fashion work. Square 1:1 gives a classic, uniform grid. Landscape 3:2 matches most camera sensors, so travel and wide scenes keep their original framing. Many photographers pick one ratio for a whole series so the profile looks deliberate and cohesive.
Is the VSCO resizing tool free?
It is free, adds no watermark and runs entirely in your browser, so your images stay on your device and are never uploaded. There is nothing to install. The first time you use it, you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool. Imagen also makes AI editing software that learns your style.
