Frequently asked questions
What does the Resize for Medium tool do?
It resizes each image you select to 1400 pixels wide and scales the height to match, so the original proportions are kept and nothing is cropped. A 6000 by 4000 pixel photo becomes 1400 by 933 pixels. Each result is saved as a JPG at 90 percent quality, with medium_ added to the start of the original file name.
How do I resize images for a Medium article?
Click the area labeled Drop images here or click to upload and select one or more photos. Each appears with the note Target: 1400px Width (Auto Height). Click Resize for Medium, and the tool processes the images in order, downloading each JPG as it finishes. Allow multiple downloads if your browser asks for permission.
Why resize images to 1400 pixels for Medium?
1400 pixels is wide enough to look sharp when an image spans the full width of a story on a large screen, while keeping files light so the page loads quickly for readers on phones. Using one width for every image also gives an article a tidy, consistent look as readers scroll from one photo to the next.
What happens to images narrower than 1400 pixels?
They are enlarged to 1400 pixels wide, because the tool always sets that exact width. Enlarging adds no detail and can make small images look soft. Start from your full-size exports so the tool only scales down. Screenshots and small graphics are better inserted at their original size if they look blurry after resizing.
How can photographers use Medium to grow their business?
Writing about how you approach a shoot, choose gear or build an editing workflow shows expertise that potential clients and fellow photographers search for. Pair each post with well-sized images from real sessions, link to your portfolio, and publish regularly. Articles keep attracting readers long after a social post has disappeared from the feed.
Is the Resize for Medium tool free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. Your images are resized in your browser on your own device and never leave it. To use the tool, you confirm once that you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool in the collection.
