Resize for eBay

Resize for eBay prepares product photos as square JPGs for eBay listings. Choose Optimal at 1600x1600 or Minimum at 500x500, then Fit, which keeps the whole product and adds white borders, or Crop to Fill, which trims the edges from the center. Set the JPEG quality and process a batch of photos at once.

Frequently asked questions

What are the exact image size requirements for eBay listings?

eBay asks for listing photos at least 500 pixels on the longest side and recommends about 1600 pixels so buyers can zoom in on detail. There is also a maximum file size per image, and eBay accepts common formats including JPG and PNG. Requirements change, so check eBay's current photo guidelines. This tool covers the size side: it outputs 1600 by 1600 or 500 by 500 pixel JPGs without distorting your product.

How do I use Resize for eBay to prepare my product photos?

Click the upload area or drag your product photos onto it; you can add several at once. Under Resolution, pick Optimal (1600x1600) or Minimum (500x500). Under Resizing Mode, choose Fit (White Borders) or Crop to Fill, and set the JPEG Quality slider between 50 and 100 percent. Click Process for eBay, and each photo downloads as a JPG named with eBay_, the size and your original file name, ready to add to your listing.

Why do my photos look blurry after uploading them to my seller dashboard?

Photos usually look blurry on your seller dashboard if they were uploaded at a low resolution or compressed too heavily first. Marketplaces also compress images to keep pages fast, and a photo near the 500-pixel minimum suffers most from that second round. Upload photos at around 1600 pixels on the longest side and keep the JPEG quality high, so your images start sharp and still look clean after the platform's own compression.

When should I use Resize for eBay instead of my standard editing software?

Use Resize for eBay when you want listing-ready squares quickly. Editing software such as Lightroom or Photoshop is excellent for color correction and retouching, but exporting square files with white borders usually means setting up a crop, a canvas and an export preset. If you just need to size a handful of product shots before listing an item, this tool is faster: pick a size and mode, add the photos and download the results.

What should I do if my image file size is still over the limit after resizing?

Every file this tool saves is a JPG at 1600 or 500 pixels square, which is normally far below eBay's per-image limit. If a file still seems too large, lower the JPEG Quality slider and process it again; around 85 to 90 percent keeps product detail while shrinking the file noticeably. Also check that you are uploading the new file, named with eBay_ at the start, rather than your original full-size export.

How does a JPEG differ from a PNG when optimizing product photos?

JPEG and PNG are both widely accepted, but they suit different images. JPEG is lossy, discarding some data to keep files small, which makes it ideal for photographs with many colors, such as product shots. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, so it stays crisp for graphics and text but makes much larger files from photos. This tool always saves JPGs, and any transparent areas in a PNG you add become white.

Does Resize for eBay change the aspect ratio of my product images?

The output is always square, but your product is never stretched. In Fit mode, the whole photo is scaled to fit inside the square and the leftover space is filled with white borders, so nothing is cut off. In Crop to Fill mode, the photo is scaled to cover the square and the overflowing edges are trimmed evenly from the center. Choose Fit when the edges matter and Crop to Fill when you want the product larger.

How can I maintain a pure white background when resizing my images?

Resizing does not change the colors in your photo, so a background that is pure white in your original stays white, and the borders this tool adds in Fit mode are pure white too. The risk is compression: a low JPEG quality setting can add faint gray blocks or halos around edges in white areas. Keep the JPEG Quality slider high, around 90 percent or above, when clean white matters.

Why is the upload failing even though my image is the correct pixel size?

If eBay rejects a file of the right size, check its format, file size and color profile. Make sure you are uploading a standard JPG or PNG and that it is under eBay's per-image size limit. Images saved in the CMYK color space, which is used for commercial printing, can fail to upload or show distorted colors, so convert to sRGB first. Files saved by this tool are standard JPGs, which eBay accepts.

Does cropping an image reduce its file size the same way resizing does?

Cropping and resizing both reduce file size, but in different ways. Cropping removes pixels from the edges, changing the composition, so there is less image to store. Resizing keeps the whole composition but recalculates it with fewer pixels. If a large photo has lots of empty space around the product, crop it in your editor first, then use this tool's Fit mode, so the product fills more of the final square.
