Barrel Distortion Fix
Wide-angle lenses often bow straight lines outward, bending horizons, door frames and building edges. The Barrel Distortion Fix lets photographers counter that bulge with a single correction strength slider, remapping the image from its center outward and downloading a corrected PNG at the original size, without opening a full editing program.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Barrel Distortion Fix do?
It corrects radial lens distortion in a single image. Barrel distortion makes straight lines bow outward, most visibly near the edges of wide-angle shots. The tool remaps every pixel based on its distance from the center of the frame, pulling or pushing the edges by an amount you choose, and saves the result as a PNG with the same pixel dimensions as your original.
How do I fix barrel distortion in a photo?
Click the upload area or drag your image onto it. Once it loads, the Barrel Correction Strength slider appears, running from -0.5 to 0.5 in steps of 0.01. Set a value and click Process & Download. The corrected image downloads as corrected-image.png. There is no live preview, so check the downloaded file, then adjust the slider and process again until straight lines look straight.
Should I use a positive or negative correction value?
The two directions counteract opposite problems. In most cases a negative value straightens the outward bow of barrel distortion, while a positive value counters pincushion distortion, where lines pinch inward. Start small, around -0.05, and compare a straight edge near the border of the frame. Strong distortion from ultra-wide lenses may need more, but most standard zooms need only a gentle correction.
Why do the edges of my corrected image look stretched or empty?
Correcting distortion moves pixels toward or away from the edges, so the frame can no longer be perfectly filled. Depending on the direction, the borders are either stretched slightly or the corners are left empty and transparent. Crop the corrected image slightly to clean up the edges. Pixels are remapped without smoothing, so moderate settings give cleaner detail than extreme ones.
Which photos benefit most from barrel distortion correction?
Architecture, real estate and interior photos gain the most, because walls, door frames and window edges should look straight. Group shots taken wide can also benefit, since people near the edges look less stretched once lines are corrected. Landscapes with a horizon near the top or bottom of the frame are another good case. Close-up portraits and nature shots without straight lines rarely need it.
Is the Barrel Distortion Fix free to use?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. Your image is processed in your browser on your own device and never uploaded. To access it, you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account once, which unlocks every tool. Imagen also makes AI photo editing software for professional photographers that learns your personal style.
