AI Photo Lighting Fix
Rescue a dark or flat photo in seconds with the AI Photo Lighting Fix. Two sliders let photographers lift or lower overall brightness and add or reduce contrast, and the tool applies both adjustments evenly across the image before saving a full-resolution JPG, a quick fix for underexposed snapshots, event photos and previews.

Frequently asked questions
What does the AI Photo Lighting Fix do?
It adjusts the overall brightness and contrast of a photo. Brightness Exposure ranges from 0.5, which halves the brightness, to 2.0, which doubles it. Contrast Boost ranges from 0.5, which flattens the image, to 1.5, which makes it punchier. Both adjustments apply evenly to the whole frame, and the result keeps your photo's original pixel dimensions.
How do I fix the lighting in a photo?
Click the file area and choose an image. The Brightness Exposure and Contrast Boost sliders appear, starting at 1.2 and 1.1; drag each one and its value updates next to the label. Click Apply Lighting Fix and the adjusted photo downloads automatically as a JPG at 90 percent quality, named with fixed-lighting- in front of the original file name. Adjust the sliders and click again to try other settings.
What settings work for an underexposed photo?
Start with Brightness Exposure around 1.3 to 1.5 and Contrast Boost around 1.1, then adjust. Raising brightness alone can make a dark photo look washed out, and a small contrast increase restores depth. Push brightness too far and highlights such as skies and white dresses clip to pure white, so increase it in small steps and check the bright areas.
Can it fix an overexposed photo?
Partly. Setting Brightness Exposure below 1.0 darkens the whole image, which can make an overly bright photo easier to look at. However, highlights that were already pure white in the file hold no detail, so they turn grey rather than recovering texture. For blown highlights, working from the RAW file in your editor gives far better results than adjusting a JPG.
Does it adjust shadows and highlights separately?
No. The tool applies one global brightness and one global contrast adjustment, the same across every part of the image. It does not detect faces or subjects, or treat shadows and highlights differently. For uneven light, such as a backlit subject, local adjustments in your editor work better. For whole sessions, Imagen is AI photo editing software for professional photographers that learns your personal editing style.
Is the Lighting Fix free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software installation. Your photo is processed in your browser on your own device and never leaves it. The first time, you confirm you're a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, and that unlocks all of the tools on the site.
