What does the AI Passport Photo Maker do?
It turns your portrait into a square 600 x 600 pixel JPG. The tool scales the photo so its shorter side fills the square, then centers it and trims the excess from the longer side. At 300 DPI, 600 pixels equals 2 inches, which is the 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) size used for US passports and a number of other documents.
How do I make a passport photo?
Click the upload area and choose your portrait; the file is listed with a Ready status. Click Generate Passport Photo. The tool crops and scales the image, the status changes to Done, and the result downloads automatically as passport-photo.jpg, saved at 90 percent JPG quality. To try a different photo, choose a new file and click the button again.
Does it check that my photo meets passport rules?
No. The tool sets the size and square shape, but it does not move the head into position, measure the face, replace the background or check lighting and expression. Official rules usually specify head height, a plain light background and a neutral expression, so check the requirements for the country and document you are applying for and compose the original photo to match.
How should I take the photo for the best result?
Shoot against a plain white or off-white wall with even, soft light and no shadows behind the subject. Frame the head and shoulders in the center, with the camera at eye level and the subject looking straight into the lens. Because the tool crops from the center, leave equal space on both sides of the head and enough room above it before you upload.
How do I print the passport photo at the right size?
Print the 600 x 600 pixel file at 300 DPI and it measures exactly 2 x 2 inches. In your photo printing software, set the print size to 2 x 2 inches or 51 x 51 mm rather than choosing a fit-to-page option. You can also place several copies on a 4 x 6 inch canvas in a layout program and order a standard print, then cut them out.
