XCF to JPG Converter
GIMP's XCF files keep layers and edits, but almost nothing outside GIMP can open them. The XCF to JPG Converter reads the project in your browser, combines its visible layers with their opacity and masks, and saves one high-quality JPG on a white background, so photographers can share a GIMP image without launching GIMP to export it.

Frequently asked questions
What does the XCF to JPG Converter do?
It converts XCF files, the native project format of the GIMP image editor, into JPG images. The converter reads the file's visible layers, combines them with their opacity, position and layer masks, places the result on a white background, and saves a JPG at 90 percent quality named after the original file. JPG opens in every browser, phone and photo app, so it is the easiest way to share a GIMP project.
How do I convert an XCF file to JPG?
Click the upload area or drag an XCF file onto it, choosing one .xcf file. Its name appears with the status Ready and the Convert to JPG button becomes active. Click it, the status changes to Processing, and the JPG downloads when conversion is complete. If the file cannot be read, the status shows the reason. To convert another project, select the next file and click the button again.
Which XCF files convert best?
Projects that use ordinary layers in Normal mode convert most faithfully, including files with several layers, layer groups, layer masks and different opacities. RGB, grayscale and indexed images, and 8, 16 and 32-bit precision, are all read. Blend modes other than Normal, such as Multiply or Screen, are drawn as Normal, so those images can look different. If a file shows an error or looks wrong, export a JPG from GIMP with File, Export As.
What happens to layers and transparency?
JPG holds a single flat image with no layers and no transparency, so the converter combines all visible layers into one picture; hidden layers are left out. Any transparent areas become white. If you need to keep transparency, for example for a logo or cut-out, use the XCF to PNG Converter instead. Always keep your XCF file as the editable master.
When should photographers export GIMP projects to JPG?
Export to JPG when an edit is finished and needs to go somewhere: a client gallery, social media, an email or a print order. The 90 percent quality setting keeps detail high while producing manageable files. Keep the XCF so you can return to your layers later, and export a fresh JPG after any changes instead of editing the JPG itself.
Is the XCF to JPG Converter free and private?
It is free, adds no watermark, and needs no installation. Your XCF file is processed in your own browser and never leaves your device. The first time, you answer that you are a photographer and sign up for or log in to a free Imagen account, which gives you access to every tool on the site. After that you can convert as many projects as you like.
