Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between JPG and JFIF?
JFIF, the JPEG File Interchange Format, is a standard way of storing JPEG-compressed images, and many .jpg files already follow it. The main practical difference is the file extension. Some older software, systems and online forms specifically ask for .jfif files, and this tool produces them from your JPGs in a single batch.
How do I convert JPG to JFIF?
Click the area at the top and choose your JPG files; several can be selected at once. Each file appears in the list marked Ready, and the Convert to JFIF button becomes active. Click it and each file changes to Converting, then Done, as a .jfif file with the same base name downloads to your device. Allow multiple downloads if your browser asks.
Will the image quality change?
The tool re-encodes each image as a JPEG at 95 percent quality, a high setting that keeps visible quality very close to the original. Because JPEG is lossy, any re-encoding can introduce tiny changes, so it is best to convert from your original exports rather than repeatedly from earlier conversions. The pixel dimensions stay exactly the same.
Is camera metadata kept in the JFIF file?
No. Because each image is redrawn and re-encoded, EXIF data such as camera settings, GPS location and copyright fields is not carried over to the .jfif file. That can be useful when you want to share images without location data, but if you need metadata preserved, add it again in your photo software after converting.
When would I need JFIF files?
Occasionally a legacy content management system, government portal or specialized device accepts only the .jfif extension. Rather than renaming files by hand and hoping they work, converting them here produces clean JPEG data with the expected extension in one batch. For everyday delivery and web use, keep using standard .jpg files.
Is the JPG to JFIF converter free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs nothing installed. Your images are converted in your browser on your own device and never leave it. To get started, you answer once that you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, and every tool is unlocked from then on.
