HDR to JPG Converter
HDR to JPG Converter turns Radiance .hdr and OpenEXR .exr files into standard JPGs for photographers sharing HDR, real estate and interior work. It reads the floating-point data, tone maps it to a normal brightness range automatically, and saves a JPG at the quality you choose. Standard image formats are re-encoded too, all in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
What does the HDR to JPG Converter do?
It converts high dynamic range images into standard JPGs that display correctly on websites, social platforms and any device. Radiance .hdr and OpenEXR .exr files are decoded from their floating-point data and tone mapped to a normal brightness range; other images your browser can open, such as PNG or WebP, are simply re-encoded as JPG. The result is an 8-bit JPG at the quality you set, saved with the original file name.
How do I convert HDR files to JPG?
Click the upload area and choose a file; the tool converts one file at a time. Once a file is selected, the JPG Quality slider and the Convert to JPG button appear, with your file listed as Ready. Set the quality and click Convert to JPG. The status changes to Processing, then Done, as the JPG downloads with the original name. If the file cannot be read, the status shows the reason instead.
Which HDR formats are supported?
Radiance .hdr files, including run-length encoded and XYZE variants, and OpenEXR .exr files saved as single-part scanline images with no compression or with RLE, ZIPS or ZIP compression. Tiled, multi-part and deep EXRs, and the PIZ, PXR24, B44 and DWA compression types, are not supported; in that case the tool names the problem and suggests re-saving with ZIP, RLE or no compression. An EXR with a single luminance channel converts as a grayscale image.
What JPG quality setting should I choose?
The slider runs from 1 to 100 percent and defaults to 90, a good balance of detail and file size for web galleries and social media. Raise it to 95 or more for prints or client downloads where every detail counts, or lower it to around 75 to 85 for fast-loading web pages. Smooth skies show compression artifacts first.
Will my HDR image look the same as a JPG?
No JPG can hold the full brightness range of an HDR file, so the tool tone maps it automatically. It sets exposure from the scene's average brightness, compresses highlights with a Reinhard curve so the brightest pixel lands on white, and applies the standard sRGB curve. That gives a balanced, natural starting point, but the look is not adjustable. If you want a specific result, tone map the image in your HDR software and convert the finished version here.
Is the HDR to JPG converter free?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no installation. Conversion runs in your browser, so your files are processed on your own device and never uploaded. The first time you use a tool, you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account; after that, every tool is unlocked.
