Frequently asked questions
What does the WebP to AVIF Converter do?
It converts WebP images into AVIF, a modern image format built for efficient web delivery. You can add many WebP files at once, set the quality, and convert the whole batch in one click. Each output keeps the original file name with an .avif extension. The conversion uses your browser's own image encoder, so nothing needs to be installed.
How do I convert WebP files to AVIF?
Click or Drag WebP files here and add your images; you can add more and they join the list with their sizes. Set the AVIF Quality slider between Smaller File and High Quality. Click Convert to AVIF and each file moves from Converting to Done as it downloads. Use Clear All to empty the list and start over.
What quality setting gives the best balance?
The slider runs from 1 to 100 percent and starts at 80, a sensible default for web galleries where files stay small and differences are hard to see at normal viewing size. Use 90 or above for portfolio hero images, and 60 to 70 for thumbnails. Because WebP files are already compressed, convert from the highest-quality WebP you have.
Does my browser need to support AVIF?
Yes. Creating AVIF files relies on your browser's built-in encoder, and not every browser can encode AVIF even if it can display it. If yours cannot, the downloaded files may not be true AVIF. Use an up-to-date desktop browser, and check one converted file before running a large batch. Displaying AVIF is supported in current major browsers.
Should I convert WebP to AVIF or go back to the original?
Whenever you can, export AVIF from your original JPG, TIFF, or RAW-based master, since every conversion between lossy formats can soften fine detail. Converting WebP to AVIF is ideal when the WebP files are all you have, such as images already published on a website, and you want to cut page weight without re-exporting the whole gallery.
Is the WebP to AVIF Converter free and private?
It is free and adds no watermark. Every image is converted on your own device by your browser and is never uploaded to a server, with nothing to install. On first use you answer that you are a photographer and create or log in to a free Imagen account, which unlocks all the tools on the site.
