AVIF to GIF Converter
Turn AVIF images into GIFs that open almost anywhere. The AVIF to GIF Converter handles single files or whole batches, lets photographers balance color accuracy against speed with a quality slider, and saves each image as its own GIF at the original pixel size, ready for older platforms, forums and email clients that still expect GIF.

Frequently asked questions
What does the AVIF to GIF Converter do?
It reads AVIF images in your browser and saves each one as a standard GIF file with the same pixel dimensions. You can add one file or many, set a conversion quality, and download a separate GIF for every AVIF you added. It is useful when a website, forum or older app accepts GIF but cannot display the newer AVIF format that many cameras, phones and websites now produce.
How do I convert AVIF files to GIF?
Drop your AVIF files onto the upload area or click it to choose them. Each file appears in a list marked Ready. Set the Conversion Quality slider, then click Convert to GIF. Each file switches to Processing and then Done, and its GIF downloads with the original file name and a .gif extension. Use Clear All to empty the list and start a new batch.
What does the Conversion Quality slider change?
GIF can store at most 256 colors, so the converter samples your image to build that palette. The slider, from 1 to 100 percent and set to 80 by default, controls how finely it samples. Toward Better Colors it examines more pixels and picks a more accurate palette, which takes longer and can make larger files. Toward Faster Processing it works quicker with a rougher palette and more visible banding.
Does the converter keep transparency or animation?
Neither carries over. Transparent areas in your AVIF are filled with white before the GIF is created, so place logos or cutouts on a white layout or choose PNG if you need transparency. The output is always a single still frame. If your AVIF is an animated sequence, the GIF contains one frame rather than the full animation, so this tool is best suited to still images.
Is GIF a good format for photographs?
GIF is reliable for compatibility, but its 256 color limit is a poor fit for detailed photographs. Smooth gradients such as skies and skin can show banding, even at the highest quality setting. Use GIF when a platform demands it or for simple graphics and previews. For prints, client galleries and portfolios, JPG or PNG keep far more of your tones and color, which is why most photographers deliver in those formats.
Is the AVIF to GIF Converter free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and requires no installation. Conversion runs in your browser, so your images are processed on your own device and never uploaded. The first time, you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool at once. Decoding AVIF relies on your browser, so use a current version of any major browser.
