Leaf MOS to JPG
The Leaf MOS to JPG tool helps medium format photographers share Leaf digital-back captures without opening a raw processor. It extracts the JPEG preview stored inside each MOS file, rotates it correctly and saves it as a JPG at the quality you set, ready for client proofs or a quick review. Convert whole sets in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Leaf MOS file and why do I need to convert it?
MOS is the proprietary raw format written by Leaf digital backs, used in high-end medium format photography. The files are large and need raw software to open. Converting to JPG lets you share proofs with clients, post images online or check your shots on any device. This tool uses the JPEG preview the back stores inside each MOS file to make the JPG.
How do I use the Leaf MOS to JPG converter?
Drag your MOS files onto the drop area, or click it to choose them. Set the Output JPEG Quality slider, then click Convert to JPG. The tool works through the files one at a time, showing Extracting and then Done, and each JPG downloads automatically with the original name. Add more files at any time, or click Clear All to start a new set.
How does converting MOS to JPG compare to converting to TIFF?
JPG is ideal when you want small files and maximum compatibility for web viewing, email or quick client proofs, since it compresses the image with some loss. TIFF stores pixels without loss and suits archiving, retouching and fine art printing. For full-resolution TIFF or 16-bit output from a MOS file, develop it in a raw processor; this tool makes JPGs from the embedded preview.
Why are my converted JPG files lacking the dynamic range of the original MOS files?
The JPG comes from the preview the digital back rendered, an 8-bit image with a standard contrast curve applied, while the MOS file holds high bit depth sensor data. Extreme highlight and shadow detail that the raw file still contains is not in the preview. To recover that detail or change exposure, edit the MOS file in a raw processor before exporting.
When is the best time in my workflow to use a Leaf MOS to JPG converter?
It is most useful at the start of a job: making quick, lightweight proofs or contact sheets for a client's first selection before you invest time in retouching, or checking what is on a set of files without launching a raw processor. For final delivery, export from your edited raw files instead, since this tool uses the back's preview rather than your adjustments.
Why does my computer struggle to open MOS files without conversion?
Most operating systems and default image viewers do not support proprietary raw formats like Leaf MOS. The files contain raw sensor data rather than finished pixels, so they need a raw processor or the original Leaf software to render. A JPG is a finished image that any photo viewer or browser opens instantly, which is why converting makes the files easy to look at and share.
Does the conversion process alter the original MOS file on my computer?
No. The tool only reads your MOS files; it never changes them. Each JPG is a new file created in your browser and saved to your downloads, while the originals stay exactly where they were. Keep your raw files backed up anyway, since they contain the full sensor data you may want for future editing or large prints.
Is there a limit to the file size I can use with the Leaf MOS to JPG tool?
The tool sets no file size or batch limit. Your files are read in your browser on your own device, so the practical limit is your computer's memory. Medium format files are large, so a big batch takes a while; the tool processes files one after another to keep memory use manageable. If your browser slows down, convert the files in smaller groups.
Can I process multiple MOS images at the same time?
Yes. Select or drop as many MOS files as you need. When you click Convert to JPG, the tool processes them one after another and downloads each JPG as soon as it is ready, rather than as a single archive. Your browser may ask once to allow multiple downloads. This is handy for producing client proofs quickly after a studio session.
What should I do if the converted JPG has unexpected color shifts?
The JPG shows the preview the digital back rendered with its own white balance and color settings at the time of capture, which can differ from how your raw processor renders the same file. The tool does not change colors. If the result is too warm, too cool or too flat for your needs, open the original MOS file in your raw editor, correct it there and export.
