Frequently asked questions
What resolution is a 6x8 print?
At 300 DPI, a 6 x 8 inch print needs 1800 x 2400 pixels, a 3:4 ratio. This tool outputs exactly that size in portrait orientation for each image, saved as a JPG at 95 percent quality and named 6x8_ followed by the original file name. The target is listed beside every file before you start.
How do I resize photos for 6x8 prints?
Click the area labeled Drop images here or click to upload and choose one or more photos. They appear in a list with a Ready status. Press Resize to 6x8. Each photo is scaled, cropped and downloaded in turn, and its status changes to Done when the file is saved.
How much will my photos be cropped?
Each photo is scaled to cover the whole 3:4 canvas, keeping its proportions, and the overflow is trimmed evenly. A vertical 3:2 camera frame loses a modest strip from its top and bottom, while a horizontal image is cropped to a vertical slice from the center. Rotate horizontal photos in your editor first if you want landscape 8x6 prints.
Which file formats can I use?
Any image your browser can open is accepted, such as JPG, PNG and WebP. All outputs are JPGs at 95 percent quality. Almost every camera file is larger than 1800 x 2400 pixels, so photos are reduced rather than enlarged and print with crisp detail at 6x8. Transparent areas in a PNG become white in the result.
Why choose a 6x8 print?
6x8 shares the 3:4 shape of many phone and Micro Four Thirds cameras, so those images print with little or no cropping. It is a comfortable size for albums, desk frames and gift prints, larger than a 4x6 snapshot yet easy to mail. Photographers also use it for proof prints of portrait sessions.
Is the 6x8 print resizer free?
Yes. The tool is free, adds no watermark and needs nothing installed. Resizing runs in your browser, so your photos stay on your device and are never uploaded. On first use you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool in the collection.
