Frequently asked questions
What size file does the 30x40 tool create?
It outputs a 3000 x 4000 pixel image, a 3:4 ratio that matches the 30x40 print format. The file is a portrait JPG at maximum quality and downloads as Print_30x40.jpg. If you are preparing several prints, rename each download so they do not overwrite one another in your downloads folder.
How do I generate a 30x40 print file?
Click the area labeled Select or Drop Image and choose one photo. Its name appears in the list along with the target dimension. Press Generate 30x40 Print File, and the tool scales and crops the photo to 3000 x 4000 pixels and downloads the JPG. Select another photo afterwards to make the next file.
Is 3000 x 4000 pixels enough resolution?
It depends on the unit. For a 30 x 40 cm print, 3000 x 4000 pixels works out to about 254 pixels per inch, which prints sharply. For a 30 x 40 inch print it is 100 pixels per inch, acceptable for canvas or posters seen from across a room but soft up close. For large inch-based prints, use a higher-resolution export.
How will my photo be cropped?
The photo is scaled to cover the whole 3:4 canvas without stretching, and the overflow is trimmed evenly from both sides. A vertical 3:2 camera frame loses a small strip from its top and bottom. A horizontal photo is cropped to a vertical slice, so rotate it in your editor first if you want a landscape 40x30 print.
Which formats can I upload?
Any image your browser can open is accepted, such as JPG, PNG and WebP, and AVIF in current browsers. The tool processes one photo at a time and always outputs a JPG at maximum quality, which keeps compression artifacts out of smooth areas like skies and skin when the file is printed.
Is the 30x40 print resizer free?
Yes. It is free, with no watermark and nothing to install. Your photo is processed inside your browser and never leaves your device. To start, you confirm once that you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which then unlocks every tool in the collection.
