Frequently asked questions

How do I create a Reels cover with the preview editor?

Click or drag and drop a photo onto Upload Your Image. The editor opens with your photo filling a 9:16 preview. Drag the image with your mouse to reposition it, move the Zoom slider to enlarge it up to three times the starting size, and use Reset to return to the original framing. When it looks right, press Download Cover to save the file.

What is the Profile Grid Safe Area?

It is the dashed square in the middle of the preview, with everything outside it dimmed. Your Reel plays full screen at 9:16, but the profile grid shows a tighter, more square crop of the same cover. Keeping faces, text and the main subject inside that square means the cover still reads well on your grid. The overlay is only a guide and does not appear in the downloaded file.

What size and format is the downloaded cover?

The cover is always saved as a 1080 x 1920 pixel JPG at 95 percent quality, named reels-cover-1080x1920.jpg. That is the full-resolution 9:16 size for Reels. The tool renders the final file from your original photo rather than from the smaller on-screen preview, so the framing you set is reproduced at full size without losing sharpness to the preview scale.

Can the image leave empty space at the edges?

No. The editor never lets the photo shrink below the size needed to fill the whole frame, and dragging stops at the image edges, so the cover is always filled edge to edge. Zooming keeps the point at the center of the preview in place, which makes it easy to tighten in on a face or detail without losing your composition.

Which photo should I use for a Reels cover?

A still from the same session as the Reel works best, ideally a vertical frame with a clear subject and a little space above and below. Horizontal photos work too, since you can zoom and drag to pick the strongest vertical slice. Accepted files are any image your browser can open, such as JPG, PNG or WebP. For the cleanest result, start from a full-resolution export.

Is this Reels cover tool free, and is my photo uploaded?

It is free, adds no watermark and runs entirely in your browser, so the photo never leaves your device. There is nothing to install. On first use you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, and that one step unlocks every tool. Imagen itself is AI editing software that learns your personal style, but this resizer works on its own.

The ultimate platform for all your photography post-production needs.
