Red Eye Fixer (Manual)

The Red Eye Fixer (Manual) lets photographers remove flash red eye by hand. Open a JPG, PNG or WebP portrait, set the brush size to match the pupil, and paint over it: reddish pixels under the brush are darkened and desaturated, and nothing outside the brush changes. Download the corrected photo as a full-resolution JPG.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Red Eye Fixer (Manual) tool?

The Red Eye Fixer (Manual) is a free browser tool for correcting the red-eye effect in flash photos. Instead of guessing where the eyes are, it lets you decide: you open the image, size a round brush to the pupil and paint over the red. Inside the brush, pixels that are clearly redder than they are green or blue are pulled toward a dark, neutral tone, strongest at the center of the brush. It suits portrait, event and flash photography.

How do I use the Red Eye Fixer (Manual) to correct my photos?

Click or drag a JPG, PNG or WebP image onto the upload area. The photo opens in the editor. Use the Brush Size slider, from 5 to 100 pixels, until the round cursor just covers the red pupil, then click or drag over it. The redness fades as you paint, and a second pass darkens it further. If you overdo it, Reset Image restores the original. When the eyes look right, click Download Result to save a JPG.

Why should I choose a manual tool over an automatic red-eye remover?

Automatic red-eye removers are convenient, but they can miss eyes at unusual angles or behind glasses, or desaturate red clothing, lipstick or background elements. Here nothing changes outside the circle you paint, so you choose exactly which areas are corrected. That control matters for professional work, where an unintended change to a carefully composed shot is worse than the red eye you started with.

When is the best time to apply red-eye correction in my editing workflow?

It is generally best to apply red-eye correction early in your post-processing workflow, right after basic exposure and color balancing, but before applying stylistic presets or heavy retouching. Fixing the red eye first means later contrast or saturation adjustments do not exaggerate it. If you use Imagen for your main edit, you can export the frames that need it, correct them here, and keep a clean baseline for the rest of your gallery.

What should I do if the corrected eye looks unnatural or completely black?

The tool has no strength setting, so control comes from the brush. Each pass darkens the red further, so a pupil painted over several times can turn flat black. Click Reset Image to return to the original, choose a brush just the size of the pupil, and use one short pass. Because reddish skin under the brush can darken too, keep the brush off the eyelids and iris, and avoid the white catchlight so the eye keeps a lifelike sparkle.

How does this tool handle pet red-eye or glowing animal eyes?

It only acts on pixels that are noticeably redder than their green and blue values, so it works on red or orange-red eyeshine, which some animals show in flash photos. The green, blue or white glow many dogs and cats produce is not red, so the brush leaves it unchanged. For those eyes you need a tool that lets you paint in a new pupil color, which this one does not do.

What image file formats are supported by the tool?

The upload area accepts JPG, PNG and WebP images. If you shoot RAW, export the frame as a JPG or PNG first, since browsers cannot open RAW files. The corrected image is saved at the same pixel dimensions as the original, as a JPG at 95 percent quality named Fixed_RedEye_ followed by your original file name, so it is ready for a client gallery, print or social media.

Are my photos stored anywhere after I use the red-eye removal tool?

No. The whole correction runs in your web browser on your own device. Your photo is read locally, painted on a canvas in the page and saved straight to your downloads when you click Download Result. It is never sent anywhere, so client portraits stay private. When you close or reload the page, the image is simply gone from the tool, and nothing about it is kept.

Are there any hidden fees or watermarks when downloading the final image?

No, there are no hidden fees or watermarks. The tool is free, and you do not enter any payment information. To use it, you confirm once that you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks every tool in the collection. Nothing is stamped onto your photo, and the download keeps the original pixel dimensions, ready for your portfolio or client gallery.

Can I use the Red Eye Fixer (Manual) on a mobile device or tablet?

Yes. The brush responds to touch and stylus as well as a mouse, so you can paint over red pupils with a finger or a pen on a phone or tablet. The brush size is measured on screen, so on a small display the photo appears smaller and each stroke covers more of it. A tablet with a stylus, or a desktop with a mouse, gives the finest control for detailed portrait work.
