Frequently asked questions

What is an NRW file?

NRW is the raw format used by Nikon COOLPIX compact and bridge cameras, the counterpart of the NEF files written by Nikon's interchangeable lens cameras. It stores data straight from the sensor, which gives great editing flexibility but means many apps, phones and websites cannot display it. Converting to PNG gives you a lossless, universally supported copy of the camera's image.

How do I convert NRW files to PNG?

Click the drop area at the top to choose your .NRW files, or drag them onto it. Each file is listed with a Ready status. Click Convert to PNG and the files are processed one by one, changing to Extracting and then Done. Each PNG downloads automatically with the original file name and a .png extension.

Does the converter develop the RAW data like a RAW editor?

No. There are no raw development settings such as white balance, exposure or noise reduction. The tool extracts the JPEG preview the camera rendered and stored in each NRW file, applies its orientation and saves it as a PNG at 8 bits per channel. If a file holds no preview your browser can decode, no PNG is created. Use your raw editor for final edits.

Can I convert a whole folder of NRW files at once?

You can select as many NRW files as you like in one go. The converter handles them in sequence and updates each file's status in the list, so you can see where it is. Every PNG downloads as a separate file. If your browser asks whether the site may download multiple files, allow it so none are skipped.

Should I keep my NRW originals after converting?

Yes. A PNG is a lossless copy of the camera's preview, but the NRW file holds the full sensor data, with far more room to recover highlights, adjust white balance and fine-tune color. Use the PNGs for previews, sharing and quick layouts, and keep the NRW files as your masters so you can always go back and edit properly.

Is the NRW to PNG converter free and safe to use?

Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software installation. Your files are processed on your own device in the browser and never leave it. To open the tools, you confirm that you are a photographer and create or log into a free account once, after which every tool is unlocked.
