Convert Canon CR2 to JPG
This free converter turns Canon CR2 raw files into JPGs in your browser. It extracts the full-quality JPEG preview your camera stored inside each CR2, turns it upright and saves it at the quality you choose, so photographers can share proofs or check a shoot on any device without opening a raw editor.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly does the Convert Canon CR2 to JPG tool do?
The tool reads each CR2 file and finds the largest JPEG image your Canon camera embedded in it, the camera's own processed rendering of the shot. It turns that image upright using the orientation recorded in the file and saves it as a new JPG at the quality you set. It does not develop the raw sensor data, which browsers cannot decode, so the result looks like the image on your camera's screen. The JPG is far smaller than the CR2 and opens on any device.
Why should photographers Convert Canon CR2 to JPG instead of just shooting in JPEG?
Shooting CR2 captures the full data from your Canon sensor, giving you room to recover highlights, lift shadows and change white balance later in a raw editor. Those files are large and do not open in browsers or on most phones. This converter gives you a quick JPG of each frame, as the camera rendered it, for proofs, previews and sharing, while the CR2 stays untouched for your real edit. For finished deliverables, export the JPG from your editing software after you edit.
How do I use the Convert Canon CR2 to JPG tool on Imagen AI?
Drag your CR2 files onto the area labeled Drag & Drop CR2 Files, or click it to browse and select several at once. Each file appears in the list with its size and a Ready status, and the JPG Quality Compression slider appears, set to 92 percent. Adjust it if you like, then press Convert to JPG. Files are processed one after another, and each JPG downloads as soon as it is ready, with the same name as the CR2. Clear List empties the list.
What is the difference between CR2 and CR3 formats when converting to JPG?
CR2 is the raw format Canon DSLRs used for many years. CR3 is the newer format used by Canon's mirrorless and recent cameras, with a different file structure and more efficient compression. This page accepts CR2 files only, so the file picker and drop area expect the .cr2 extension. Inside a CR2, the camera embeds a processed JPEG preview alongside the raw data, and that preview is what this tool saves as your JPG.
Why do my converted JPG files look slightly different in color than the original CR2 files?
The JPG is the preview your camera rendered at capture, so its color, contrast and white balance follow the camera's settings, such as the Picture Style you had selected. A raw editor builds its own rendering from the sensor data with its own default profile, which is why the same CR2 can look different there. If you compare the JPG with your edited version, expect differences. When you need your own color grading, edit the CR2 in your raw software and export from there.
When is the best time in my workflow to convert raw files to JPG?
Use this tool whenever you need a viewable copy quickly: checking a shoot on a computer without raw software, sending proofs for a client to choose from, or sharing a frame right away. For final delivery, cull and edit the CR2 files in your raw workflow and export the finished JPGs from there, since this converter saves the camera's rendering and does not apply edits. Converting never changes the original CR2, so you can do both.
Does converting a CR2 file to JPG reduce the image resolution or physical dimensions?
The JPG takes the pixel dimensions of the largest preview your camera embedded in the CR2, turned upright for vertical shots. On most Canon models that preview is the full image size, matching the camera's own large JPEG, but if a file carries only a smaller preview, the JPG is smaller too. The file size in megabytes drops a lot, because the JPG is 8-bit and compressed, and it lacks the raw data you would need to push exposure or white balance later.
Can I process multiple files at once with this tool?
Yes. You can select or drop many CR2 files at once and keep adding more before you convert. When you press Convert to JPG, the tool works through the list one file at a time and downloads each JPG as soon as it is ready, so there is no ZIP file to unpack. Your browser may ask for permission the first time a page downloads several files in a row. Because everything runs on your device, large sets take longer on an older computer.
Are my original photographs secure during conversion?
Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your web browser, on your own device, and your CR2 files never leave it. Nothing is sent anywhere, so no copy of your raw files or JPGs exists outside your computer, and nothing could be used for training models or marketing. Your originals are only read, never changed. The tool is free with no watermark; to use it you create a free Imagen account once, after confirming you are a photographer.
Will the EXIF data from my Canon camera be preserved in the final JPG?
No. The JPG is written fresh from the image pixels in your browser, so the EXIF data from your CR2, such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length, capture time and camera model, is not copied into it. The orientation is applied to the pixels themselves, so vertical shots still appear upright. If you need shooting details in your delivered files, export from software that writes metadata, and keep the CR2 as the record of your settings.
