BMP to PDF Converter

The BMP to PDF Converter turns each BMP image into its own single-page PDF, with the page sized exactly to the image so there are no white margins. The picture is embedded as a high-quality JPEG, making the PDF far smaller than the BMP, so photographers can share proofs and scans in a format every device opens.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main advantage of using the BMP to PDF Converter for photography portfolios?

BMP files are uncompressed, so they are large and awkward to email or post, and many people cannot open them on a phone. PDF opens on almost every computer, tablet and phone. The converter embeds your image as a high-quality JPEG inside the PDF, which is much smaller than the original BMP while keeping its full pixel dimensions. That makes it easier to email proofs to clients, submit work to publications or send scans of prints in a standardized format.

How do I convert multiple BMP images into a single PDF document?

This tool does not merge images: it makes one single-page PDF for each BMP. Select or drop all your BMP files at once, and they appear in a list with their sizes, marked Ready. Click Convert to PDF, each file changes to Done, and a Download PDF link appears next to it. To create one multi-page document, convert the files here and then combine the PDFs in a PDF editor, where you can also set the page order.

Why should I choose PDF over JPEG when converting my BMP files?

Inside these PDFs the image is stored as a JPEG at 95 percent quality, so the picture itself is the same as a high-quality JPEG. The difference is the container. A PDF opens predictably in document viewers and print workflows, can be combined with other pages into a proof booklet or submission, and is the format many publications and print services ask for. If you only need an image for the web or social media, a plain JPEG is simpler and slightly smaller.

What should I do if the BMP to PDF Converter is producing very large files?

The PDF stores each image at its full pixel dimensions as a 95 percent quality JPEG, so a very high-resolution BMP still produces a sizable PDF, though usually far smaller than the BMP itself. To reduce the size, downscale the BMP in your editing software before converting it; for email or screen viewing, around 2000 to 3000 pixels on the long edge is usually plenty. You can also run the finished PDF through a PDF compression tool if you need it smaller still.

When is the best time in my workflow to convert BMP files to PDF?

The ideal time to convert your images to PDF is at the final delivery or presentation stage of your photography workflow. You should complete all your primary editing, color grading, and retouching in your native software using raw or uncompressed formats like TIFF or BMP to keep as much image data as possible. Once the final edits are approved and exported as BMPs, you can use the conversion tool to turn these finished files into PDFs for client proofing, digital lookbooks, or print layout submissions. This keeps your working files separate from your easily distributable presentation files.

Does converting a BMP to PDF alter the original color profile of my photographs?

The image is placed in the PDF as plain RGB data without an embedded color profile, so PDF viewers display it as standard screen color. For BMPs in sRGB, which covers most BMP files, colors look as expected on almost every screen. If your source was edited in a wider space such as Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB, convert it to sRGB in your editor before saving the BMP, or colors may look duller or shifted in the PDF. Any transparent areas are filled with white.

Why are my converted PDF pages showing a white border around my BMP images?

They should not: this converter sizes every PDF page exactly to its image, one point per pixel, so the picture fills the page edge to edge with no margins. If you see a white border, it usually comes from the viewer or printer. A print dialog set to a paper size such as A4 or Letter will scale the page to fit and add margins where the shapes differ. Choose a borderless or fit-to-page option, or a paper size that matches your image's aspect ratio.

How does the BMP to PDF Converter handle image resolution compared to standard export plugins?

Export features in photo editing software render a PDF from your edit and usually let you choose page size, DPI, compression and output sharpening. This converter is simpler: it takes your finished BMP and wraps it in a PDF at its exact pixel dimensions, with no resizing or sharpening, encoding it as a 95 percent quality JPEG. The page is sized at one point per pixel, so set the print size in your print dialog. For specialized print output, export directly from your editor instead.

Are my unreleased editorial photos secure when converted?

Yes. The conversion happens entirely in your web browser, so your BMP files and the PDFs made from them stay on your own device and never leave it. Nothing is stored after you close the page, which makes the tool suitable for unreleased editorial, commercial and client work. The first time, you confirm you're a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, which unlocks this tool and every other one on the site.

How do I ensure my landscape and portrait photos are oriented correctly in the final PDF?

BMP files do not carry rotation metadata the way camera JPEGs do, so the converter uses the image's actual pixel dimensions: a wider-than-tall image becomes a landscape page and a taller-than-wide image becomes a portrait page. If a photo appears sideways, its pixels were saved sideways. Rotate the image in your photo editing software, save the BMP again, and convert it; the PDF page will then match the correct orientation without any further adjustment.
