Frequently asked questions

What does the SVG to PDF Converter do?

It turns SVG graphics into PDF files. Each SVG becomes a separate one-page PDF, with the page set to the same width and height as the graphic and the orientation chosen automatically, landscape for wide artwork and portrait for tall artwork. The graphic is rendered as a high-resolution image on a white background and placed on the page, so the PDF is not vector. The PDF keeps the name of the original file.

How do I convert SVG files to PDF?

Click the upload area and select one or more SVG files. They appear in a list marked Ready, and Convert to PDF becomes active. Click it and each file changes to Converting and then Done as its PDF downloads. A file that cannot be read as an SVG is marked Invalid SVG and the others carry on. Choosing new files replaces the list, and your browser may ask once to allow multiple downloads.

What page size will my PDF have?

The page matches the graphic itself rather than a paper size like Letter or A4, so there are no added margins and nothing is cropped. The size comes from the width and height set in the SVG file; a file with no size set gets an 800 by 800 page. If you need a specific print size, adjust the SVG's dimensions before converting, or place the PDF onto a sized page in your layout software.

How do I get the sharpest result?

The converter renders each graphic at up to four times its defined size, capped at 8000 pixels on the longest side, and places that image in the PDF. Make sure the SVG has explicit width and height values close to the size you intend to use, since a tiny SVG gives a small, softer render. Because the result is an image, text in the PDF cannot be selected; if you need true vector output, export a PDF from your design app.

Why would a photographer convert SVG to PDF?

PDF is the format clients, venues and print shops expect. Converting a logo, price sheet or branded graphic built as SVG gives you a file that opens on any device and prints predictably. It is also handy for attaching artwork to an email or a proposal when the recipient cannot open SVG files. When a printer specifically asks for vector artwork, send the original SVG or a PDF exported from your design app.

Is the SVG to PDF Converter free?

Yes. It is free, adds no watermark, and runs entirely in your browser, so your files stay on your device. There is nothing to install. On first use you answer that you are a photographer and create or log in to a free Imagen account, and every tool is unlocked. After that you can convert as many SVG files as you need, one at a time or in batches.
