1:1 Photo Crop
Square images rule social grids, contact sheets and profile thumbnails. The 1:1 Photo Crop from Imagen AI turns any photo into a perfect square by keeping the full length of its shorter side and trimming the longer side evenly from both ends, giving photographers a clean, centered crop without opening editing software.

Frequently asked questions
What does the 1:1 Photo Crop do?
It makes a square from your photo. The tool measures the shorter side of the image and uses that length as both the width and the height, then cuts the same amount from each end of the longer side so the crop stays centered. A 6000 x 4000 pixel landscape becomes a 4000 x 4000 square, and a vertical frame is trimmed at the top and bottom instead. The kept pixels are not resized.
How do I crop a photo to a square?
Click the upload area and choose an image. The file name appears with Target: 1:1 Aspect Ratio and a Ready status. Click Process 1:1 Crop and the square version downloads automatically, named with a cropped_ prefix in front of your original file name. The status switches to Done once the file has been saved, and you can choose another image to crop the next one.
Which file types can I use, and what do I get back?
Any image format your browser can open works, which covers JPG, PNG and WebP in every modern browser, plus formats such as AVIF where the browser supports them. The square is saved as a JPG at 90 percent quality, a good balance of small file size and fine detail for web, social media and client previews. Because the output is JPG, transparent areas in a PNG are not preserved.
Can I choose which part of the photo is kept?
No. The crop is always centered, which suits most compositions where the subject sits near the middle of the frame. If your subject is near an edge, recompose in your editor first, for example by trimming a little from the opposite side, and then run the image through the tool so the centered square lands where you want it.
Why do photographers need square crops?
Square images display without further cropping in Instagram grids, many portfolio templates, album covers and profile pictures. Preparing the square yourself means you decide what stays in the frame instead of letting a platform crop it automatically. It is also handy for building consistent thumbnails for a blog or a client gallery index, where a mix of vertical and horizontal images can look uneven.
Is the 1:1 Photo Crop free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. Your photo is processed by your browser on your own device and is never uploaded anywhere. The first time you use one of the tools, you confirm you're a photographer and sign up for, or log into, a free Imagen account, and after that every tool stays unlocked.
