1.85:1 Cinema Crop
Give your stills the widescreen proportions of a theatrical release. The 1.85:1 Cinema Crop by Imagen AI trims any photo to the flat cinema aspect ratio used for many feature films, cutting evenly from the center so photographers can create film-style frames, storyboards and banners in a few seconds without opening an editor.

Frequently asked questions
What does the 1.85:1 Cinema Crop tool do?
It cuts your photo to a 1.85:1 frame, the flat widescreen ratio used by many theatrical films. The tool keeps as much of the image as possible: a very wide photo keeps its full height and loses equal strips from the left and right, while a standard camera file keeps its full width and loses equal strips from the top and bottom. Nothing is resized, so the pixels you keep stay at their original resolution.
How do I crop a photo to 1.85:1?
Click the upload area and choose an image. The file name appears with a Ready status. Click Apply 1.85:1 Crop and the tool reads the image in your browser, calculates the largest centered 1.85:1 rectangle that fits, and downloads the result straight away as cinema_crop_1_85.png. The status changes to Done when the file is saved. To crop another photo, choose a new file and click the button again.
Which image formats can I crop?
Any image format your browser can display works, which covers JPG, PNG and WebP in every modern browser, along with formats such as AVIF where the browser supports them. The cropped result is always saved as a PNG, a lossless format, so the crop adds no compression artifacts. PNG files from large camera images are bigger than JPGs, so convert the result if you need a lighter file for the web.
Can I choose which part of the image is kept?
No. The crop is always centered, which works well when your subject sits near the middle of the frame. If the subject is closer to the top or bottom, recompose first in your editor, for example by cropping a little off the opposite edge, so the centered 1.85:1 frame lands where you want it. The tool then handles the exact ratio for you.
Why would a photographer use a 1.85:1 crop?
It gives still images the feel of a frame from a film, which suits cinematic portrait and wedding series, street photography and stills that accompany video work. It is less extreme than the 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 scope formats, so it keeps more of a standard photo while still reading as widescreen. It also fits wide website banners and presentation slides well.
Is the 1.85:1 Cinema Crop free and private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. Your photo is processed by your browser on your own device and is never uploaded anywhere. The first time you use one of the tools, you confirm you're a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account, and after that every tool stays unlocked.
