PNG to TIFF Converter
Convert PNG images to uncompressed TIFF files in your browser. Add one or many PNGs, optionally set a new width or height to resize them proportionally, and download each TIFF with its transparency kept. Photographers use it to prepare graphics and exports for print labs, retouchers and editing software that expect TIFF.

Frequently asked questions
Why should a photographer convert a PNG file to a TIFF format?
PNG works well on the web, but many print labs, retouchers and layout programs ask for TIFF, the long-standing standard for print and archiving. Converting gives you a file those workflows accept without question. This tool writes uncompressed 8-bit RGB TIFFs with an alpha channel, so every pixel of the PNG is kept exactly and transparency survives. The format can also hold layers, 16-bit color and CMYK, which you can add later in your editing software if a job needs them.
How do I use the free PNG to TIFF Converter on Imagen AI?
Drag PNG files onto the upload area or click to browse; you can add several at once. Each file appears with a preview and a Pending status, and the resize fields fill in with the first image's size. Clear both fields to keep every image at its own size, or enter a width or height to resize. Click Convert All, and each file gets a Download TIFF button. Clear All resets the list and the size fields.
What is the difference between PNG and TIFF formats for image editing?
Both PNG and TIFF are lossless image formats, meaning they do not discard pixel data to reduce file size like JPEG does. However, their primary use cases differ. PNG was developed primarily for digital screens and web use, supporting RGB color and transparent backgrounds. TIFF was designed for professional photography, desktop publishing and high-resolution printing. TIFF files can handle CMYK color, which commercial printing relies on, and can store multiple layers, alpha channels and metadata within a single file, which makes TIFF the more versatile choice for editing and archiving.
When is the best time in my photography workflow to use a PNG to TIFF Converter?
The best time is right before you begin intensive retouching or when preparing digital assets for physical printing. If you receive graphic elements, logos or client-provided assets in PNG format that need to be integrated into a high-resolution composite, converting them to TIFF first keeps them consistent with the rest of your working files. If a print lab requires CMYK, convert the PNG to TIFF first and then change the color space in your editing software, without risking compression artifacts along the way.
Why is the file size so much larger after converting my image?
That is expected. PNG uses efficient lossless compression, while this converter writes TIFFs with no compression at all, storing four bytes per pixel for red, green, blue and alpha. A 4000 by 3000 pixel image therefore comes out at about 48 MB whatever its content, while the PNG might be a fraction of that. The larger file holds exactly the same pixels in a form that needs no decoding. If space matters, resave it with LZW or ZIP compression in your editor.
Does converting a PNG to TIFF improve the actual resolution of the original photo?
No. Changing the format never adds detail. Without resizing, the TIFF has exactly the pixel dimensions of your PNG, so a 1920 by 1080 pixel PNG gives a 1920 by 1080 pixel TIFF. The optional resize fields can make an image larger, but that only spreads the same detail over more pixels, so it will not look sharper. The file is tagged at 72 pixels per inch, which you can change in your editor without resampling when you set a print size.
What should I do if the PNG to TIFF Converter fails to process my file?
If a file shows Error, it could not be decoded as an image. Confirm it is a genuine PNG and not another format with a renamed extension; the tool only accepts PNG files and asks you to choose PNGs if you drop something else. Open the file in an image viewer to check it is not damaged, and export it again if needed. An uncompressed TIFF needs a lot of memory, so on a phone or older computer convert one large file at a time or resize it smaller.
Will the transparent background in my PNG be preserved when converted to TIFF?
Yes. The converter writes the PNG's alpha channel into the TIFF as a fourth channel marked as unassociated alpha, so transparent areas stay transparent instead of turning black, and soft edges keep their partial transparency. Photoshop opens the file with a transparent layer, ready to place over other images. Some viewers and simpler apps ignore TIFF transparency and show those areas as white or black, so check the result in the software you will actually use.
Are TIFF files compatible with standard photography editing software?
Yes. TIFF is one of the most widely supported image formats in photography, and the files this tool writes use its most basic form: uncompressed, 8 bits per channel, RGB plus alpha, in a single image. Photoshop, Lightroom and virtually every other editor, viewer, layout program and print workflow can open them on Windows, macOS and Linux. Because nothing exotic is used, these files are also a safe choice for long-term archiving.
Are my photos secure when I use the online PNG to TIFF Converter?
Yes. The converter runs entirely in your browser: your PNGs are read and turned into TIFFs on your own device, and the files never leave it. Nothing is sent anywhere during conversion, so unreleased client work and private images stay with you. The tool is also free and adds no watermark. When you close or refresh the page, the files you added and the converted versions are simply discarded.
