Photo HSV to RGB
The free Photo HSV to RGB tool decodes images whose channels store HSV data, a common format in scientific imaging and computer vision. It reads each pixel's red channel as hue, green as saturation, and blue as value, converts them to true RGB color, and saves the results as lossless PNGs. Several files can be converted at once.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Photo HSV to RGB tool and how does it work?
It converts images that store Hue, Saturation, and Value in their three color channels back into viewable RGB images. Such files look like strange false-color pictures in a normal viewer. For every pixel, the tool reads the red channel as hue, scaling 0 to 255 to 0 to 360 degrees, green as saturation and blue as value, both from 0 to 100 percent, then applies the standard HSV to RGB formula. Transparency is left unchanged, and each result is saved as a PNG.
Why would a photographer edit in HSV before converting to RGB?
HSV separates color from brightness, which makes some tasks simpler: shifting hues, isolating a color range, or adjusting saturation without touching brightness. Analysis scripts, scientific imaging, and computer vision pipelines often process images in HSV and save the channels directly as an image file. If you receive or create one of those files, this tool turns it back into a normal picture so you can view and use it.
How do I use the Photo HSV to RGB converter for my images?
Drag your HSV-encoded images onto the drop area or click it to choose them; you can add several and add more later. Each appears in the list as Ready. Click Convert to RGB and the tool processes them in turn, marking each Done, and downloads a PNG named RGB_ followed by the original name. Use lossless sources such as PNG or TIFF where possible, because JPEG compression alters the channel values and therefore the decoded colors.
How does HSV differ from HSL, and does this tool support both?
Both describe color by hue and saturation but handle brightness differently. In HSV, the value channel runs from black to the pure color at full strength. In HSL, lightness runs from black through the pure color at 50 percent to white at 100 percent. The two are not interchangeable, and this tool decodes HSV only. An image encoded as HSL would come out with wrong brightness and saturation, so convert it with software that understands HSL.
When should I use the Photo HSV to RGB tool in my post-production workflow?
Use it whenever you have an image saved in HSV form and need to see or deliver it as a normal picture, typically at the end of a scripted or analytical process. Run your HSV-based processing, save the result with hue, saturation, and value in the red, green, and blue channels, then decode it here. Do not run ordinary photos through it: a normal RGB image would be misread as HSV and come out with wildly wrong colors.
Why do the colors in my image look shifted after using the Photo HSV to RGB tool?
Usually the input does not match what the tool expects. It reads hue across the full 0 to 255 range of the red channel. Some software stores 8-bit hue as 0 to 179, half the circle, and such files decode with wrong hues. Make sure the channel order is hue, saturation, value in red, green, blue. Hue is stored in 256 steps, about 1.4 degrees each, so small color gradients can show slight banding, and JPEG compression adds further shifts.
Does the conversion process degrade the overall image quality or resolution?
No. The output has the same pixel dimensions as the input, every pixel is recalculated with the same formula, and the result is saved as a lossless PNG, so no compression is added. Two things are worth knowing: metadata from the original file is not carried over to the PNG, and the precision of the result is limited by the 8-bit channels of the input. For the cleanest decode, keep HSV files in lossless formats throughout your workflow.
What should I do if the tool fails to process my image?
The tool can only read image formats your browser can open, such as PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF. If a file stays at Processing, the browser could not decode it, which is common with TIFF, raw formats, and non-image files; convert it to PNG first and try again, using Clear List to start fresh. There is no file size limit, but very large images take longer and use more memory, since everything runs on your own device.
Is it better to convert to sRGB or Adobe RGB after using this tool?
The PNGs this tool saves have no embedded color profile, so viewers and browsers treat them as sRGB, the standard for screens, the web, and most digital delivery. If the image is going online or to clients digitally, leave it as it is. If it is headed for high-end printing where a wider gamut such as Adobe RGB is required, assign or convert the profile in your editing software afterward, according to how the original HSV data was defined.
Can I batch process multiple images with the Photo HSV to RGB converter?
Yes. Select or drop as many images as you need, and add more before converting if you like. When you click Convert to RGB, the tool works through the list one file at a time and downloads each PNG separately as it finishes, so your browser may ask whether to allow multiple downloads. Clear List empties the queue when you are done. Everything runs in your browser, so the speed depends on your computer and the image sizes.
