Gray Card White Balance Tool
Shot a gray card at the start of the session? The Gray Card White Balance Tool uses it to neutralize color casts. Load the photo, click the gray card in the preview, and the tool scales the red, green and blue channels so that spot becomes neutral, then lets you download the corrected image. It works entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
How does gray card white balance work?
A gray card reflects red, green and blue light equally, so in a correctly balanced photo its three channel values should match. When you click the card, the tool averages a small patch of pixels around that point, works out the mean of its three channels, and multiplies every pixel in the image by the factors needed to bring each channel to that mean. The cast disappears across the whole frame.
How do I use the Gray Card White Balance Tool?
Click the upload area, labeled Click to select photo, and choose an image that includes your gray card. The preview appears below. Click directly on the neutral gray area of the card, and the preview updates with the corrected colors. If the result looks off, click a different spot on the card. When you are happy, click Download Adjusted Image to save a full-size JPEG named balanced-image.jpg.
Where exactly should I click on the gray card?
Click in a flat, evenly lit area of the card, away from edges, text, glare and shadows. The tool averages a small square of pixels around your click, sized to the image, which smooths out sensor noise, but a reflection or the card's edge inside that square can still skew the result. Viewing the preview large helps you pick a clean spot. Each click starts again from the original photo, so trying several spots never stacks corrections.
Does it work without a gray card?
It works with any surface that should be neutral, such as a white wall in shade, a gray concrete step or a neutral jacket. Avoid clipped white highlights, because a channel stuck at its maximum cannot be measured correctly. Results are most accurate with a proper photographic gray card photographed in the same light as your subject.
How do I use a gray card during a real shoot?
At the start of a session, or whenever the light changes, have your subject hold the card in the scene and take one frame. Use that frame to find the correct white balance, then apply the same setting to every image shot in that light. This is faster and more consistent than judging skin tones by eye on each photo.
Is the white balance tool free, and are my photos private?
Yes. It is free, adds no watermark and needs no software. Your photo is processed entirely in your browser, on your own device, and is never uploaded. The first time you open a tool, you confirm you are a photographer and create or log into a free Imagen account; after that, every tool is unlocked.
