Neva Sullivan attributes hiring an accountant as one of the actions she took to improve her photography business workflow.

For many of us photographers, we either went to school for photography or got into photography for some reason. However, not all of us were educated about business or accounting. Sure, there is a large portion of photographers who were trained in business and then got into photography. But that is likely the minority in the industry.

So learning about business or outsourcing certain areas of your business can truly save you immense time and frustration. Doing this can and will also free up time for you to focus on more of the creative side of things, behind the camera. Or the time to engage more with your leads and clients which in turn help your business so much.

If you are like Neva and want to hire an accountant, here is some advice to follow.

  • Try to hire a CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
  • Try to find an accountant who understands creative businesses, like photography.
  • Try to find an accountant with a strong track record. Get referrals and look at testimonials.
  • Try to find an accountant who uses modern technologies like Quickbooks Online which can remove a lot of back and forth and unnecessary in-person meetings.

Watch and listen to Neva Sullivan talking about this in detail in a clip from episode 4 of our podcast, Workflows.
