Sigma X3F to TIFF
Sigma X3F to TIFF helps photographers get a TIFF copy of their Sigma Foveon raw files for programs and workflows that expect one. Select one or many X3F files and convert them in a batch: the tool takes the largest JPEG preview embedded in each file and saves it as an uncompressed TIFF with the original file name.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Sigma X3F to TIFF converter do?
It turns X3F files, the raw format from Sigma cameras with Foveon sensors, into TIFF images. Browsers cannot decode Foveon sensor data, so the tool uses the camera's own rendering: the largest JPEG preview embedded in each X3F file. Each is saved as a TIFF named after the original, with .tiff replacing .x3f. The TIFFs are baseline and uncompressed, the plainest form of the format, which virtually every editor accepts.
How do I convert X3F to TIFF?
Click the area labeled Drop X3F files here and select your files. Each one appears in the list marked Ready. Click Convert to TIFF and the files are processed one after another, each switching to Processing and then Done as its TIFF downloads. If a file has no readable preview, its row shows a message instead. Leave the page open until every file is finished.
Why choose TIFF over JPG or PNG for Sigma files?
TIFF is the long-standing standard for print and archiving, and many labs, layout programs and retouchers expect it. Because these TIFFs are uncompressed, saving them adds no compression of their own. They are much larger than JPGs, so they suit hand-offs to programs or people that require TIFF, while JPG remains the better choice for sharing online. Remember they hold the camera's preview, not a full raw development.
Does the TIFF keep the full RAW quality?
No. The TIFF is the camera's embedded JPEG preview saved as an 8-bit-per-channel RGB image, so it does not carry the full bit depth, white balance latitude or, often, the full resolution of the raw file. Keep the X3F originals as your masters, and for large prints or heavy retouching, develop them in raw software and export a 16-bit TIFF from there.
How do I organize X3F and TIFF files in my archive?
Keep the raw originals in one folder per shoot and put the converted TIFFs in a sibling folder. Because the converter keeps original file names, every TIFF matches its X3F, which makes it easy to trace a file back to its source. Convert after culling, so you only spend disk space on the frames you actually need, since uncompressed TIFFs are large.
Is Sigma X3F to TIFF free, and is it private?
Yes. The tool is free and adds no watermark, and your files are processed on your own device without ever being uploaded. There is no software to install. On your first visit, answer that you are a photographer and log in to or create a free Imagen account, which gives you access to every tool.
