What is a property release?
A property release is written permission from the owner of private property to photograph it and use those images. Stock agencies, advertisers and brands often ask for one when a recognizable home, interior, venue or other private property appears in commercial work. This generator creates a simple release you can print and have the owner sign before or on the day of the shoot.
How do I create a property release with this tool?
Fill in Owner Name, Property Address, Description of Property and Photographer/Entity Name, then click Generate Release Document. A preview of the release appears below the form. Click Print / Save as PDF to open the release in a new window along with your browser's print dialog, where you can print on paper or choose the save as PDF option for a digital copy.
What does the generated property release say?
The release is dated the day you create it. The owner grants the named photographer or entity the right to photograph and record the described property, and to use, publish and display those images in any media now known or later devised, for any lawful purpose including advertising and promotion. It releases the photographer from related claims and ends with a signature line and the owner's name.
What happens if I leave a field blank?
The tool still generates the document and inserts a placeholder in brackets, such as [OWNER NAME] or [PROPERTY ADDRESS], wherever information is missing. That is useful when you want a blank form to fill in by hand on location. Simply print the release with placeholders and complete the details in pen with the owner before they sign.
When do photographers need a property release?
