Frequently asked questions
Does Imagen back up my RAW files automatically?
Yes. When you upload a project to Imagen for editing or culling, your RAW files are backed up automatically — no separate upload, no extra steps. Backup runs as part of your normal workflow, so your photos are protected without adding anything to your to-do list.
Does it back up every photo in a project, or just the ones I edit?
Every photo. When you upload a Lightroom Classic catalog, Imagen backs up the entire catalog — every RAW file in the project, not only the ones you send to edit. So if you upload 2,000 photos and edit 300, all 2,000 originals are protected.
What are my options for how RAW files are stored?
You have 2 choices. Optimized backup preserves the full resolution and metadata of your RAW files at up to 75% smaller file size, faster to upload, lower cost, and suitable for professional use. Original backup creates an exact, uncompressed copy. Most photographers don’t need uncompressed storage, so Optimized is what we recommend. Either way, a free low-resolution backup of every project is always included.
Can I get my RAW files back if my hard drive fails?
Yes. Select the project you need to recover, and Imagen downloads your backed-up RAW files to a local folder on your computer. For recently accessed projects, downloads are available right away. For older archived projects, Imagen retrieves the files and sends you an email when they’re ready to download.
What happens to my RAW backup if I cancel my plan?
Your high-resolution RAW backup is kept for 30 days after you cancel, giving you time to download anything you need. After 30 days, high-res files are deleted. Your free low-resolution backup stays available regardless — it doesn’t expire when a paid plan ends.
