How does Duplicate Removal work?
Imagen’s AI analyzes your photos based on capture time and visual similarity. Photos taken within moments of each other with similar composition are grouped together. The AI then evaluates each group and selects the sharpest, best-exposed shot as the keeper. Alternates stay accessible in case you prefer a different moment.
Can I adjust how Imagen groups similar photos?
Yes. In project setup, you can choose between Less Similar, Similar, and Very Similar grouping. Less Similar creates broader groups and keeps fewer total photos. Very Similar creates tighter groups and keeps more variety. Adjust this based on how aggressive you want the Duplicate Removal to be.
What if the AI picks the wrong photo from a group?
You’re always in control. In Culling Studio, you can swap the AI’s pick for any alternate in the group. Click on a grouped photo, browse the similar shots, and select your preferred one. Your choice overrides the AI’s decision.
Does Duplicate Removal work on all photo types?
Duplicate Removal works on any project with 250 or more photos uploaded from a Lightroom Classic catalog. It’s ideal for weddings, events, portraits, and any shoot where you capture multiple frames of the same moment.
Will I lose important photos?
No photos are deleted. Imagen marks some as keepers and others as alternates, but all your originals remain untouched. You can restore any photo before exporting or sending to edit. Duplicate Removal is about saving review time, not deleting files.
