Optimized storage keeps your photos at full resolution with all metadata intact — it just compresses the RAW file size by up to 75%. You get the same pixel dimensions and the same detail you’d need for professional use, in a file that’s a fraction of the size. Most photographers can’t tell the difference between an Optimized backup and the original.
How does Optimized compare to Original storage?
Original storage creates an exact, uncompressed copy of every file. Optimized does the same for resolution and metadata, but reduces RAW file size by up to 75%. That means the same storage plan holds 4 times more projects with Optimized than with Original. We recommend Optimized for most photographers — Original is only worth it if you specifically need uncompressed files and storage space isn’t a concern.
Does Optimized storage affect my JPEG files too?
No. JPEG files are always stored as exact originals regardless of which quality setting you choose. Since JPEGs are already compressed by your camera, Optimized compression doesn’t apply to them — they go in as-is every time.
How much storage do I actually need?
It depends on how much you shoot. A typical wedding shoot is around 30–50 GB of RAW files uncompressed. With Optimized storage, that same shoot takes up roughly 8–12 GB — so a 500 GB plan ($3/month) covers a light shooter comfortably, and a 2 TB plan ($10/month) works well for most full-time photographers shooting 3–6 weddings a month. If you run a studio with multiple photographers, custom plans are available too.
Is my storage secure?
Yes. Your photos are stored on Amazon Web Services in US data centers, with a second copy kept in a separate geographic region for redundancy. Imagen’s data centers are SOC 2 compliant, ISO 27001 certified, and GDPR compliant. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest.
